Support Services for Nontraditional Programs

Increasingly, schools are expanding their traditional academic programs to support adult learners and other students who seek alternative programs to the standard semesters or quarters.  If your school is considering implementing new programs that are offered in the evening, on weekends, online, or using a mixture of these delivery methods, financial aid processing and compliance requirements are very complex.  In recent months, many schools have discovered they are not processing federal financial aid awards correctly since the terms of their programs do not align with the traditional semesters or quarters.  Federal Pell Grant and student loan programs require alternate approaches and procedures to determine financial aid eligibility for nonterm programs.  As the need increases to offer more methods of delivering courses, many schools have found that some of their programs now require a different approach to awarding financial aid.

The Center can assist schools in determining the appropriate procedures for handling nonterm and nonstandard term enrollment periods, as well as highlight potential pitfalls and help create proper monitoring systems to ensure regulatory compliance related to nontraditional programs.
